A motorcyclist and his passenger were killed when their bike hit a car head-on on a busy road between two Austrian towns on Sunday.

What happened? On Sunday afternoon, a motorcycle and a car crashed into each other on the B320, a main road that runs through a mountain valley in Austria. The road links the town of Radstadt in the Salzburg region with Mandling in Styria. The rider, 48, and the passenger, 37, died at the scene. The car was driven by a German couple. The reason the motorcycle ended up in the wrong lane is still being investigated.

Who is helping? Rescue teams raced to the scene, including the emergency doctor from the Christophorus 14 rescue helicopter, which is based in Niederöblarn in Styria. When they arrived, they could only confirm that the two riders had died. Police closed the road while they worked. Traffic investigators will now try to piece together what happened using witness statements and vehicle data.
