A 21-year-old woman in Brazil died when the team running her jump forgot to hook her safety rope, and the people responsible are now in custody.

What happened: In the state of São Paulo, near the city of Limeira, a young woman took part in a rope jump — an extreme sport where you swing from a tall bridge on a long climbing rope. Videos show three men carrying her to the edge and pushing her off the Ponte do Esqueleto bridge, about 40 meters above the ground. The team never attached the safety rope. Rescue workers reached the scene but could only confirm her death.

Who is helping: Police and the military police responded quickly. Six people were detained, and three men — ages 27, 32, and 42 — were sent to pre-trial detention on suspicion of manslaughter. Investigators found the group had no permit to run the event and no permission to use the bridge. Mayor Murilo Félix announced the city will sue the federal agencies that oversee the bridge, saying the site has been a known danger for years and that his warnings were ignored.
